10:00 a.m.

View the Cyclorama Experience. This massive, 360-degree "Battle of Gettysburg" painting-in-the-round was first exhibited in 1884. Today, this colossal experience is exhibited the way the artist originally intended-with the painting (measuring 377 feet around and 42 feet high!), a canopy that removes the building's architectural features from your sight, and a three-dimensional diorama, which carries the painted scene into the foreground. You feel as though you're surrounded by the fury of Pickett's Charge on the third and final day of the Battle of Gettysburg.

The film, "A New Birth of Freedom, narrated by Morgan Freeman, will introduce you to the Civil War and the Battle of Gettysburg-placing those monumental events into the larger context of American history and helping you understand that what happened in the past is very relevant in the present day.

11:00 a.m.

Explore the Visitors Center and the shops.

12:00 p.m.

Enjoy lunch, on own, at the Visitors Center. The varied menu includes "Tastes of the Period" and features dishes like beef stew, slippery chicken pot pie and Gettysburg chili served with cornbread. For dessert, don't miss the giant snickerdoodle cookies.

1:15 p.m.

Begin two-hour guided driving tour of the historic Gettysburg battlefield. See the actual locations of the different stages of the battle. It is here 20,000 Union soldiers engaged 27,000 Confederate troops...and won.
