Aviation hangar housing more than 100 aircraft carriers and 122 space objects including the Enola Gay and the Concorde.The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum annex at Washington Dulles International Airport in Fairfax County, Virginia. The Center was made possible by a $65 million gift in October 1999 to the Smithsonian Institution by Steven F. Udvar-Hazy, an immigrant from Hungary.

Opened in December 2003, the Udvar-Hazy Center displays historic aviation and space artifacts, especially items too large for the National Air and Space Museum's building on the National Mall, including:

-the Enola Gay, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress that dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan

-the Space Shuttle Enterprise

-the Gemini VII capsule

-an Air France Concorde supersonic airliner

-the first aircraft operated by FedEx, a Dassault Falcon 20

-a piece of fabric from the LZ 129 Hindenburg which survived the Hindenburg disaster

-and lots more

Arrive Steven Udvar-Hazy Air Center at the Washington Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, Virginia.

The Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum has built the new Udvar-Hazy (pronounced OOD-var HAH-zee) Center to display and preserve its collection of historic aviation and space artifacts. On display are:

B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay
Space Shuttle Enterprise
Air France Concorde
Tilt-rotor, a protype airplane/helicopter combination
Formerly top-secret SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest aircraft ever built
Curtiss JN-4D Jenny, the aeronautical equivalent to the Ford Model T
You are on your own to explore the Center. Available to you for additional costs: Flight Simulator Rides ($7pp); IMAX Theatre ($9 Adult, $7.50 Child 2-12). Lunch, on own, at McCafe. If you prefer to bring a picnic lunch, there are tables outside. Food may NOT be brought into the Center.
