Only a handful of cities rival Washington, DC's history and influence, and visits to the Lincoln Memorial, the White House or the Smithsonian leave lifetime impressions, as do somber moments spent at the Arlington National Cemetery, the U.S. Holocaust Museum or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.There is such a plethora of museums, monuments and points of interest that it can take many trips to Washington, DC to visit its sites in full.Sometimes referred to as the "Nation's Attic," the Smithsonian Institution has 15 museums including the Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of Natural History. The Smithsonian Institution was founded for the "increase and diffusion" of knowledge from a bequest to the United States by the British scientist James Smithson (1765-1829), who had never visited the United States himself. The collection of world class museums have with a variety of exhibits ranging from insects and meteorites to locomotives and spacecraft. Admission to all of the Smithsonian museums is free. Visitors enjoy examining more than 137 million objects, works of art and specimens as well as participating in guided tours, hands-on-activities and special programs. With 19 museums and galleries, there truly is something for everyone. You can not see everything in one visit.

Arrive Washington, D.C. You will have two choices:
1/ You may spend the day exploring the many museums comprising the Smithsonian Institution. You will be dropped off at the National Air and Space Museum.
or
2/ You may stay on the coach for a short driving tour of the federal area of the city. We will only make brief stops at the Lincoln, Vietnam, Korean, and World War II Memorials. We will drive-by other Memorials and Monuments. Following the tour, you will be dropped off at the National Air and Space Museum for exploration of the Smithsonian Institution museums.
Approximate touring time: 90 minutes.

You are welcome to bring along a bag lunch, or you can find lunch at the many street vendors or in the Cafeteria on the lower level of the National Gallery of Art.

Depart Smithsonian Institution.

5:15-6:30 pm

Arrive Union Station for dinner, on own. This 1907 restored train station houses 125 stores, unique shops, restaurants and food court. It serves as the main terminus for AMTRAK in Washington D.C
